WHAT IS FOUNDRY?
FOUNDRY IS A YOUTH HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICE CENTRE! Foundry’s vision is to transform how young people access health and social services throughout British Columbia, and we have a centre being built in Port Hardy.
By bringing together core services and supports, Foundry will support young people aged 12-24 and their families with easy access to care.Whether a young person needs support for anxiety or depression, wants to see a family doctor or is struggling with a stressful situation, we will help them get the services they need.
North Island Crisis and Counselling Centre Society is the "lead agency" tasked with organizing this AMAZING community - wide partnership! Have any questions? If it is about Health Services call or email Chris at 250-949-8333 firstname.lastname@example.org or if it is about the Foundry build process, fundraising, or donations, call Angela at 250-902-9015 email@example.com!
WHEN IS FOUNDRY COMING? WHAT'S THE TIMELINE?
January - April 2021: Site Selection! Site selection means looking for the best spot to renovate or build a Foundry Centre! There are many considerations in selecting a site, from accessibility and safety, to cost and affordability, to coolness (because let's face it, we want it to be awesome) to code and building requirements. We are closely examining several of Port Hardy's options. Contact Angela if you want more information!
March - April 2021: Youth and Family Engagement! This engagement is done through "co-design" which allows for family and youth voices to guide this process. This is fluid, fun, depends on community, and meets youth and family where they are at. There is honorarium, key points of contact, and always someone to talk to in this process. We approach this with curiosity! Chris at North Island Crisis and Counselling is leading this charge!
April - December 2021: Design! We want this centre to look and feel like a centre that youth and families want to go to! Shauna Lenius Design and the Team at Medi-Dent Development are going to come up with first-class, cutting edge design like we have not see on the North Island!
2022: The build! We will have more details on this later.
WHERE IS IT GOING TO BE LOCATED?
Port Hardy will be the hub for Foundry on the North Island. Once we are up and running in Port Hardy, we will be offering satellite services to Port McNeill and working to serve the Islands and remote First Nations communities in the Broughtons and Mainland Coast.
WHO IS GOING TO OPERATE IT?
North Island Crisis & Counselling Centre Society is what we call "the lead agency" and they are organizing Foundry Port Hardy. We have dozen of Indigenous partners, government partners, non-profit partners, community partners, and more!! Stay tuned for the complete list of all the people who have been working on this with NICCCS and Foundry Central!
HOW ARE YOUTH & FAMILIES INVOLVED?
Youth and families are the KEY PARTNERS in this mission. The youth and family voice around design and services are EVERYTHING! Indigenous and Non-Indigenous youth get the chance to have specialized co-design opportunities where we work together to make Foundry Port Hardy an awesome reality for youth and families. It needs to be where you want to be. Safe, welcoming, helpful, fun, cool, supportive and more. It's a place youth can ALWAYS go.
